Porcine circovirus disease is an infectious disease mainly affecting weaned piglets. It is caused by a circovirus and is characterised by growth retardation, skin lesions and respiratory syndrome. The pathogen belongs to the genus Circovirus, family Circoviridae. There is a non-pathogenic porcine circovirus (PCV type 1) and a pathogenic form (PCV type 2), which replicates in lymphoid tissue cells.
The diagnosis of CBS-2 is often complicated by second-hand infections (hemophiliasis polyserosis, pasteurellas et al.), and pathobiotic changes in circulatory infection may be similar to the classic or even African plague of pigs. Due to its accuracy and specificity, the PCR method is one of the best tools for the diagnosis of circulatory disease.
